Misc Firewall Forward Work
TLDR
- Fixed a leak in brake reservior
- Installed intercooler baffle gasket
- Adjusted cowling gap to propeller flange

Brake Reservior Leak
I recently noticed a small leak in the brake reservior leak mounted on the firewall. The reservior is a plastic bottle connecting to a straight fitting. The connection joint has a leak.
I used a syringe to get the brake fluid out in a small container, and removed the old reservior bottle. I happen to have a spare bottle laying around, so I installed the new bottle and put the fluid back. I will check on the leak next time when I get back to the hangar.
Intercoolor Baffle Gasket
The intercooler needs a rubber gasket to connect to the naca duct on the cowling.
I test fitted the gasket and made some cuts to get a better fitting. Then I use contact cement to glue the rubber on the intercooler shell. This will take a few days to set, so I will check on it again next week.
Cowling Gap
As planned, I use a dremel tool with sanding disc to slowly shave off the tip of the cowling to get the gap with the propeller flange to 5mm.
The sanding disc is 80 grit. After the rough sanding, I followed up with a 220 grit sanding paper to get the cowling tip smooth.
After that I put the cowling back on for measurement.
I did this a few times, each time only shaved off a tiny bit of material. Eventually I got the cowling to fit with 5mm gap and change.
