Cowling Day5: Camlocs & Prepping the Inspection Doors
TLDR
- Installed camlocs
Details
Camlocs
Tools:
- Snap ring tool
- Camloc pliers
- Countersink bit and 3.2mm countersink rivets.
I match drilled the camloc holes on both the upper and lower cowling, and installed the camlocs.
To make sure the precision is high, I fully installed camloc one at a time before drilling the next hole. So this process took quite a while.
Unfortunately, once I installed everything the bottom spacing between the cowling and the propeller hub became 4.8mm, which was less than the minimum 5mm.
I have to sand off the tip of the cowling a little. In order to preserve the strength, I will add some fiberglass+epoxy mix at the back.
Inspection Doors
After working on the whole cowling, the inspection door did not seem very difficult to do.
I placed the door on top of the cowling for a test fit first. There were some obvious places to be trimmed, which I marked out with a Sharpie.
Then I test fitted the piano hinge on the inspection door. Didn’t get time to really finish this work, will continue next week.
