Cowling_day4_camloc_prep
TLDR
- Prepped the cowling for camloc
Details
From yesterday’s work, I decided to install all camlocs around the firewall stiffener so I can get the finalized location for coolant radiators, so today I put the cowling back on, and started to install camlocs.
Tools
A few pieces of specialty tools are required.
I bought a snap ring installation tool from Yardstore, and a camloc plier from Amazon.
Matching holes
The camloc holes are already pre-drilled by the factory on the firewall stiffener strip. And I drilled small pilot holes last week and used them to cleco the cowling onto the airframe.
Today I used a step drill to enlarge each hole I drilled previously to roughly the same size as the pre-drilled camloc holes (1/2 inch), then used a sanding tip on dremel to enlarge the hole on the composite material and eventually match it to the pre-drilled holes.
Camloc Socket
Then I shot 3.2mm countersink rivets to install the camloc sockets to the airframe.
Cleaning Up
Drilling the composite material on the cowling is extremely dusty. I spent some time to clean up the engine bay, and vacuumed the floor to keep my workspace clean.
