Mounting Wing Harness Connector, Wire Management on Firewall Forward

Mounting Wing Harness Connector, Wire Management on Firewall Forward

TLDR

  • Installed custom mount for the wing connectors

Details

During the Midwest Panel Builder’s visit a couple of weeks ago, they offered to make me a custom mount to secure the wing connector on the fuselage side. That sounded like a great idea, so I took them up on the offer.

The parts arrived this week, so I put it on the airplane.

Before the install

The parts came with 2 plates to be installed onto the fuselage, and mounts the wing connector onto the plates. And there is also a 3D printed jig to drill the holes for the plates. The whole design is quite elegant.

Installation

With the jig, I drilled the holes on the fuselage and test fitted the mounting plates.

Then riveted the plates permanently in place with 4.0mm rivets.

The connetor itself is mounted on the plate through 4 M4 screws and locknuts on the back.

As a note, I rotated the connectors so first pin is at the top. I will remember this when connecting the wing harness wires.

Wire Management on Firewall Forward

Spent another hour cleaning up the wires on the firewall forward to make sure they don’t chafe on anything, and don’t have any move when the engine is running.
