Exhaust Pipe - Part 2

Exhaust Pipe - Part 2

TLDR

  • Replaced the factory exhaust pipe with the Sling custom version

Details

It was a long day cutting and fitting the exhaust pipe. Some heavy tools were used and it was nerve wrecking cutting into a perfectly new engine. But it had to be done.

I used Patrick Shine’s blog as the blueprint and pretty much did exactly what he did.

This thing is going onto the airplane TODAY!

Process

Step 1: Measure the final cut position

Used a zip tie to ensure the line is straight when I draw it around the pipe

Step 2: cut the pipe outside of the welded cover entirely using an angle grinder.

The cutting has started

Almost done for this step

Step 3: cut the exposed parts below the welded cover where the the angle grinder can still reach.

The white lines are where I will make the cut

Step 4: switch to a dremel with 2 inch cutting wheel, and cut the top half of the pipe obstructed by the welded cover from under.

Cutting from under with a dremel

Step 5: Use aggresive deburring bit on a dremel to grind off the welding lines, and release the top half pipe from the welded exhaust cover.

After much battle with the welding, it’s gone

Step 6: Clean up the burs

It gets dusty

I look like a miner after the work

Step 7: Fit the first exhaust pipe clamp

The clamp was a super tight fit, I needed to use a small hammer to tap it onto the pipe.

Step 8: Fit the second exhaust pipe clamp

The second clamp is super easy fit though
